Carol Wester of Hopewell Associates in Mattapoisett, MA, was her preceptor for her CAGS degree. Carol was an excellent role model and one of the most caring people whom Rachel has ever met.

Rachel is a transgender woman who began transitioning in her late 40s. She understands the challenges facing children struggling with gender identity and sexual orientation through her experiences and advanced training provided by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). She has also been active with the Trans Community of New England (TCNE), the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network, and is a Coast Guard veteran, serving in New Jersey, Michigan, California, and Minnesota.

She is currently a member of the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network (consultant for the Elevate Youth Program), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), The Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), Trans Community of New England (TCNE), and the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA).

Rachel presented two workshops at the First Event conference at the Boston Park Plaza in January 2023 on the topics of gender dysphoria and the standards of care for trans youth based on WPATH standards of care. In 2024 she will be presenting workshops on gender dysphoria and is currently engaged in creating a program to educate primary care providers on the medical and social issues in treating transgender youth. In partnership with the Southcoast LGBTQ Network she is helping to develop a mental health first responder program to enable the organization to respond to traumatic events surrounding aggressions against LGBTQIA youth who participate in activities sponsored by the organization. The impetus for this was the recent transgressions by a neo-nazi group that terrorized the participants of drag queen story hour in Taunton, MA on 1/18/2023.

Rachel's personal interests include board games, RPG games, her rescue dog Tota, SCUBA diving, cooking, reading, saltwater aquariums, skiing, attending concerts, and kayaking. Her goal in 2023 is to start playing pickleball locally.

Some of her favorite books include Catcher in the Rye, Stranger in a Strange Land, Atlas Shrugged, Ender's Game, and Lily and Dunkin.

Some of her favorite music groups include PowerSlut, Linnea's Garden, Pink Floyd, Set It Off, Arctic Monkeys, The Warning, The Jezabels, My Chemical Romance, As It Is, From Ashes to New, Ghost, Grace Vanderwaal, Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, and Halestorm.
